Work Study Program

The Hellenic College Holy Cross (HCHC) Work Study Program provides job opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students regardless of financial need. The program encourages community service work as well as work related to courses of study. It also includes on-campus administrative positions available from a variety of school departments.

Hourly Wage and Scheduled Hours
The hourly wage for Federal Work Study positions is the same hourly rate as the current Massachusetts minimum wage. Effective 1/1/2023 the minimum hourly wage is 15.00. On campus positions pay a slightly higher wage rate due to travel expenses that may be incurred by the student.

Your supervisor may schedule your work study position for up to 15 hours of work per week. Advise your supervisor of your availability based on other obligations and academic requirements. The total maximum hours a student may work on campus is 20 hours. Over 15 hours per week on campus requires supervisor approval in advance.

Types of Jobs
There are several types of jobs that may be available both on-campus and off-campus.

  • Community Service – These are paid opportunities that may be available through non-profit organizations that are directed toward improving the quality of life for community residents, particularly low- income individuals and individuals with specific needs.
  • The America Reads/America Counts Programs – These programs are designed to provide tutoring to area children in need of additional help in reading or mathematical competency. These have proven to be ways for students to serve the needs of the community while obtaining rewarding and enriching experience through the Work Study program.
  • On-Campus Employment – Part-time positions are available from most of the HCHC administration departments. Students interested in on-campus jobs should review the list of open positions.

Job Postings
During the first two weeks of school, position openings will be posted online and the job boards located in the Condakes Cafeteria and outside of the Human Resources office. Human Resources is located on the second floor of the Administration Building.
